{"id":59,"date":"2017-12-12T11:39:29","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T11:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodhallspabowlsleague.co.uk\/?page_id=59"},"modified":"2024-03-10T15:16:55","modified_gmt":"2024-03-10T15:16:55","slug":"league-rules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/woodhallspabowlsleague.co.uk\/index.php\/league-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"League Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>THE AIMS OF THE LEAGUE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To provide League Matches for members of clubs who wish to play in the afternoons.<\/li>\n<li>To promote friendship between Clubs and their\u00a0Members.<\/li>\n<li>The elected Committee shall manage the affairs of\u00a0the League. The Committee shall consist of at\u00a0least three of the Officers of the League \u2013 a chairman, a Secretary, a Match Secretary (the\u00a0previous two posts may be combined), a Treasurer\u00a0and a President. Up to four other members may be\u00a0elected to serve on the Committee. A quorum for\u00a0all meetings shall be four.<\/li>\n<li>Each member of the Committee (whether also an\u00a0Officer or not) is to be elected annually and\u00a0current members may stand again.<\/li>\n<li>The Committee shall have the power to co-opt a\u00a0member or members who shall serve until the next\u00a0following AGM at which they may stand again.\u00a0Such members shall have full voting rights.<\/li>\n<li>The Committee shall have the power to appoint\u00a0such sub-committees as they deem appropriate and\u00a0for such specific purpose as they deem\u00a0appropriate. Such sub-committees shall report\u00a0only to the full Committee and shall have no\u00a0power to act on their own.<\/li>\n<li>In the event of any vacancy occurring between\u00a0AGM\u2019s, the Committee shall elect a substitute who\u00a0shall be granted the powers of the post he or she\u00a0occupies and shall serve until the next following\u00a0AGM at which they may stand\u00a0 again. Such\u00a0members shall have full voting rights.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>COMPOSITION OF THE LEAGUE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The League will consist of two equal status\u00a0sections.<\/li>\n<li>League Match Points will be awarded: 2 points for\u00a0a win per rink and 1 point for a tie per rink.<\/li>\n<li>If, at the completion of all matches, there is a Points\u00a0Tie, the total aggregate difference will decide Final League Positions.<\/li>\n<li>A play-off for the League Cup will take place\u00a0between the 2 Section Leaders. This will be played at a neutral venue with host club being awarded the match fee. No player will be\u00a0eligible for this match unless he\/she has played in at\u00a0least one other League Matches during that season for the\u00a0Club he\/she represents.<\/li>\n<li>Before this Final begins, Captains will agree a rink\u00a0from the unturned cards. This rink will play 19 ends,\u00a0so that, in the event of a tie at 18 ends, this 19th end\u00a0result will determine the overall League winner. In the\u00a0Final only, the aggregate shots from all three rinks\u00a0will decide the winner. There will be no points\u00a0awarded. The Secretary or other Committee Member\u00a0\u00a0if he\/she is unavailable shall be present at the draw for\u00a0rinks and shall be responsible for the conduct of the\u00a0match.<\/li>\n<li>The Runners-up will receive the Runner-Up Shield.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>COMPOSITION OF TEAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Teams will consist of 3 rinks, each of 3 players.\u00a0Each player will bowls 3 woods per end.<\/li>\n<li>ENTRY FEES for teams playing in the League and in the\u00a0Ron White Shield shall be fixed at the AGM prior to the start\u00a0of the League season. Each team shall inform the Secretary in\u00a0writing of any changes to their intended participation in the\u00a0League and\/or its Competitions before 1st January each year\u00a0to allow time for the Match Secretary to arrange the\u00a0timetable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>MATCH PLAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Unless otherwise stated specifically in these Rules, the \u201cLAWS OF THE GAME \u2013 EBF \u2013 AS Currently AMENDED shall apply to all matches.<br \/>\nb. A match will consist of 18 played ends. Should a\u00a0match be terminated for any reason, the score at the\u00a0time of termination will count as the final score\u00a0provided that at least 12 ends have been completed.\u00a0If 12 ends have not been completed (by all 3 rinks),\u00a0then the match shall be void and shall be replayed in\u00a0its entirety at a date MUTUALLY agreed between the\u00a0teams.<\/li>\n<li>There shall be no trial ends.<\/li>\n<li>The Home Team shall deliver the jack for the first\u00a0end.<\/li>\n<li>To count, woods must be within 2 metres of the jack.<\/li>\n<li>All woods must bear the correct club stickers \u2013\u00a0except that if both teams normally play with the same\u00a0coloured stickers, the Home team must all either\u00a0remove their stickers or add a temporary\u00a0distinguishing mark to each side of every wood,\u00a0before the start of play. Team Captains are responsible\u00a0for ensuring that this is done.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe one essential that MUST be adhered to is that\u00a0Footwear MUST be of the correct design in order to\u00a0preserve the playing surface from damage. It is\u00a0agreed that members of our Clubs may wear any of\u00a0the approved colour footwear, just as long as they are approved flat-soled.\u00a0Dress code below the waist must be grey and can be\u00a0trousers, shorts, skirts or culottes as long as they are\u00a0\u201cdecent and appropriate\u201d.\u00a0Above the waist, either predominantly white shirts,\u00a0blouses, polo shirts, or any approved Club Shirt.\u201d\u2022 The word \u201capproved\u201d is as defined in the EBF Rules.<br \/>\n\u2022 The possible clothing permutations may help to\u00a0encourage younger players to join and will enhance\u00a0the corporate sense of each club.\u00a0\u2022 This will also bring our League into line with others\u00a0in the area.\u00a0Team Captains should ensure that this Rule is adhered\u00a0to by all their players.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>SUBSTITUTE FOR A PLAYER WHO IS ILL OR ABSENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>10 MINUTES shall be allowed from the advertised\u00a0start time for an absentee to arrive. If, after 10 minutes have elapsed, a player has not arrived, a substitute may\u00a0be used \u2013 BUT may not play as a Skip.<br \/>\nb. If no substitute is available, EBF Law VII.3 shall be\u00a0observed. (In the event of two players playing against\u00a0three the order of play shall be lead, lead, second\u00a0(repeated as necessary), to be followed by the skips.)<br \/>\nc. A player who becomes ill at any point after the first end\u00a0has started and unable to continue, may be replaced by\u00a0a substitute \u2013 if any is available \u2013 such substitute may\u00a0NOT play as a Skip. Otherwise the score at that point\u00a0shall be frozen and count\u00a0 towards the result. The\u00a0remaining players may continue to play if they wish, but the subsequent ends will not count towards the\u00a0result.<br \/>\nd. In any case where a substitute has started to play, that\u00a0person must play to the end of the match and the\u00a0original player may not take any further part.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>MATCH DAYS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Clubs with two or more teams may interchange\u00a0players from their own teams as often as they wish \u2013\u00a0provided no player plays for more than one such team\u00a0within a period of seven days.<br \/>\nb. Matches can only be postponed because of inclement weather or the green being unplayable.\u00a0\u00a0This decision is entirely that of the green keeper\u00a0concerned.<br \/>\nc All matches are to be played in the afternoon,\u00a0starting at 2 p.m. on the days shown on the official\u00a0fixture list. Should a later start be requested, the team\u00a0making this request must telephone the opposition at\u00a0least 48 hours before the advertised time and ask if this is agreeable \u2013 and shall be bound by the reply.<br \/>\nd. Should a change of date (or day) for a match be\u00a0required the home team shall be responsible for\u00a0putting forward alternative dates (three such dates to\u00a0be put forward and the away team must accept one of\u00a0these or forfeit the game \u2013 it is expected that such dates be reasonable and, if possible, mutually agreed\u00a0upon). Both teams must agree and the Match\u00a0Secretary informed accordingly.<br \/>\ne. In the event that no suitable alternative date can be\u00a0arranged, the Home team Captain shall send a written\u00a0report to the Match Secretary. After taking into\u00a0account all relevant aspects from both Clubs, the<br \/>\nMatch Secretary shall decide the distribution of points\u00a0and this decision shall be final.<\/li>\n<li>The start of the season shall be the first Wednesday\u00a0in May and the end of the season shall be as\u00a0determined by the Match Secretary each year.<\/li>\n<li>RESULT SHEETS must be returned, completed, to\u00a0the Results Secretary IMMEDIATELY after the game,\u00a0by mail or by email.<\/li>\n<li>IN THE CASE OF 2 MATCHES IN ANY ONE WEEK. The second match on the fixture list may be played on any day in that week-IF BOTH TEAMS AGREE-. The Match Secretary MUST be informed of any change in date.<\/li>\n<li>CLUBS WITH SMALL NUMBER OF PLAYERS<br \/>\nClubs with small number of members and having\u00a0difficulty in fielding a full team may co-opt players\u00a0from another club \u2013 BUT the Results secretary must be\u00a0informed. This is a concession to be used only in rare\u00a0circumstances. Such \u201cborrowed\u201d players may not play\u00a0as Skip. For clarity, Rule 5 i does not apply to such\u00a0\u201cborrowed\u201d players if they belong to another CLUB as\u00a0opposed to another TEAM within the same club\u00a0because it is intended to assist CLUBS with a small\u00a0number of players, not those with two or more TEAMS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Ron White Memorial Shield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A competition will take place for the Ron White Memorial Shield. The EBF Laws of the Game as currently amended will cover this competition.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>This is a Round Robin competition where League Teams can enter a team or teams of up to 5 players to take part.<\/li>\n<li>There will be four sessions of 8 ends each. The make-up of each team will be three players bowling three bowls each. The players can be rotated after each session.<\/li>\n<li>Two points are awarded to each team that wins their game and one for point each for a draw, and none for a loss. The shots for and against are recorded for each session.<\/li>\n<li>The team with the greatest number of points are the winners. The runners up are the team with the next most number of points. In the case of a points tie then the team with the largest shots difference wins. In the case of a shots difference tie then the team that has scored the most \u201cshots for\u201d wins. In the event of a tie at this stage then the team winning the most ends over the four sessions wins. If after all this there is a tie, then the trophy and any monies is shared.<\/li>\n<li>The entry fee for those teams wishing to enter will be collected at that season&#8217;s AGM held in the March. (I\u2019m sure if there are any unforeseen circumstances that mean that a team cannot take part a refund can be negotiated)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>The Wilkinson Shield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a knockout cup competition played by members of the Woodhall Spa Friendly Bowls League and it is played under EBF Rules.<\/p>\n<p>There is a preliminary round played to decide who progresses to the first round, which will then consist of eight teams. Some teams will get a bye straight through to the first round. The others play off against each other to determine who goes through to join them.<\/p>\n<p>The eight remaining teams will then play to decide the semi-finalists. The semi-final and final will then be played on the same day at an agreed neutral venue.<\/p>\n<p>For each game, each team will consist of three rinks of three players who bowl three bowls each. Each game will be decided by the AGGREGATE score of all three rinks, with a previously drawn rink to play off if the scores are tied.<\/p>\n<p>The Home team will deliver the jack at the first end although the captains will toss for the jack before the semi-final and final.<\/p>\n<p>The games will be played over eighteen ends. Should a match be terminated for any reason before completion then the aggregate score at the time of termination will count as the final score provided at least twelve ends have been COMPLETED, by all three rinks.<\/p>\n<p>If twelve ends have not been completed by all three rinks, then the match shall be void and shall be replayed in its entirety at a date MUTUALLY agreed between the teams. Please inform the competition secretary of all results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Stan Hargreaves Competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a competition for individuals from any or all the clubs in the Woodhall Spa Friendly League. It is played under EBF Rules.<\/p>\n<p>The MAXIMUM of 48 players could enter and will be played at a pre-agreed venue.<\/p>\n<p>There will be usually four sessions of eight ends played over the day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Each player will draw a disc out of a bag. On the disc will be a colour, white or black, which is the team they will play for, a rink number and a bowling position.<\/p>\n<p>The individual keeps their own score card and writes down the team score for each end. At the end of each session, they will have the total that their team scored.<\/p>\n<p>They will then draw another disc out of the bag for the next session, and so on for the other sessions.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the competition the winner is the bowler with the most number of shots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANY MATTER NOT SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED FO<\/strong>R, will be dealt with in such manner and belief that true\u00a0sportsmanship will prevail. It is the League\u2019s belief that, in the\u00a0absence of a specific Law or Rule, Common Sense will find a\u00a0way to complete a happy solution to a knotty\u00a0 problem.\u00a0Unusual incidents not specifically provided for frequently\u00a0occur \u2013 it is on such occasions that the \u201cFriendly\u201d word of the\u00a0League\u2019s title will be uppermost in everyone\u2019s mind.\u00a0In the rare event that teams cannot agree, the League\u00a0Secretary must be approached by the teams concerned for a\u00a0solution that shall be binding on the parties concerned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is now subject to the General Data Protection Regulation Act 2018. The League considers that the storage and publication of contact details on the webpages as relevant and not excessive. It is also adequate and relevant to the objectives of the league. Once a named individual representative resigns from that position then their details will be deleted from our files.
